Take a journey of discovery from sea level to summit. Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims and a legendary giant, explore the ancient harbour village, climb the cobbled path and ascend to the castle at the top of the island.

Stoop through ancient doorways and glimpse the building’s changing faces – from priory to fortified castle and, since the mid-1600s, home to the St Aubyn family who still live here today. Discover imposing, historic battlements, cannons fired in Napoleonic wars and spectacular views across the bay.

Please note: Ancient, rugged and steep, some parts of the island and castle can be tricky to navigate. Paths around the island are steep, cobbled and uneven with intermittent handrails. There are unguarded edges and steep drops. Sensible footwear is recommended. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to take a wheelchair or pushchair up to the Mount summit. Please see our Accessibility Statement here.

FAQS

We have created a FAQ section on our website to assist with any questions you might have with regards to a visit at this time. Our privacy policy can be found here.

DRESS CODE

The Castle is Lord and Lady St Levan’s family home and a place of worship, and appropriate clothing and shoes must be worn throughout the Castle. Inappropriate clothing includes all types of swimwear or very revealing clothes. It is not possible to enter the castle without wearing a top or without footwear. The paths around the island are very irregular with intermittent handrails, and we strongly recommend wearing sturdy footwear.

BAGS IN THE CASTLE OR GARDEN

Large bags are not allowed inside the castle or around the garden terraces to ensure the safety of the collection and fragile garden. Large bags must be placed inside the free to use bag drop by the Dairy. Small paper carry bags are available inside bag drop for you to carry any essential belongings.

PARKING

Visitors to the island should use The St Michael’s Mount and Long Stay Marazion car park. During busy periods, there is an overflow car park opposite so that there will always be space for your visit. The postcode for Satnav is TR17 0EG and it may be marked as Folly Field on some maps.

This is an ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) car park, and charges are also payable for National Trust members and disabled badge holders.

DOGS

Dogs or other pets are not allowed onto the island between 27th March and 30th September including the harbour and village (other than assistance dogs).

From 1st October onwards, dogs are welcome on the island but are not permitted in the Castle or Steward's House (other than assistance dogs). See our dog policy for further information.
